The terms you study under.

These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) form a binding agreement between you and Numinous Lab (“we”, “us”, “our”) covering the knot mobile application and the knot Pro subscription (together, “knot”). By downloading, installing or using knot, you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, do not use knot.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information and forms part of this agreement.

You must be at least 13 years old to use knot, and old enough in your country to enter into a binding contract — or else have the consent of a parent or guardian who accepts these Terms on your behalf. If you use knot on behalf of an institution, you confirm you are authorised to accept these Terms for it.

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use knot on devices you own or control, for your own study. This licence is limited to the features your subscription status gives you access to, and lasts while these Terms are in force.

knot, its design, its source code and its trade marks remain our property or that of our licensors. Nothing in these Terms transfers any of that to you.

knot works for local study without an account. If you create one — with your email address, or with Google or Apple — you agree to keep access to it secure (email sign-in is passwordless, so anyone with access to your inbox can sign in as you) and to tell us promptly if you believe your account has been used without your permission.

An account is for one person. You are responsible for activity that takes place under it. You can delete your account from inside the application at any time; deleting it removes your account record, and does not cancel a store subscription.

Everything you write in knot — your notes, your recall cards, the collections and plans you create — is yours. We claim no ownership of it and we acquire no licence to use it, publish it, analyse it or train anything on it. It is written to your device and leaves it only in a backup file you save or share, or in a request you send to Ask Knot.

When you send a request to Ask Knot, you give us the narrow permission we need to pass it to an AI model and return its drafts to you — nothing more. We do not keep it or use it for any other purpose.

You are responsible for the content you create. Do not use knot to store or transmit anything unlawful, or anything you do not have the right to hold.

Studying in knot is free. knot Pro lets Ask Knot run on your own AI key (section 7), unlocks PDF export, and adds other Pro features as we release them. It is sold as an auto-renewing subscription, currently offered on a monthly and a yearly plan.

Billing

• Purchases are made through, and billed by, the Apple App Store or Google Play — not by us. Your store account is charged on confirmation of purchase.
• The price and currency shown to you in the application come from the store for your region and include any taxes the store collects. That displayed price is the price that applies.
• A subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your store account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.

Cancelling

• Cancel at any time in your Apple or Google account subscription settings, or through the subscription management screen inside knot. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period; you keep Pro access until then.
• Deleting the application does not cancel your subscription, and neither does deleting your knot account. Cancel it through the store.

Free trials and introductory offers

Where a free trial or introductory price is offered, any unused part of it is forfeited when you buy a subscription, and the trial converts to a paid subscription at the standard price unless you cancel before it ends. Eligibility for offers is determined by the store.

Refunds

Refunds for store purchases are handled by Apple and Google under their own policies, and we cannot issue, reverse or override a store charge. If you believe you were charged in error, request a refund through the store you bought from. Statutory rights of withdrawal or cancellation in your country are not affected by this paragraph.

Restoring and price changes

Use Restore Purchases in Settings to re-link an existing subscription after reinstalling or changing device. If we change the price of a subscription, the change applies to future renewals only, and the store will notify you and seek your consent where its rules require it.

Ask Knot drafts notes, flashcards, collections and plan events from what you ask for, including from a photo or PDF you attach. It is optional, it needs a knot account, and it only runs when you send it a request. A free account gets a small number of requests on our model; with knot Pro, Ask Knot runs on your own AI key.

Check what it drafts

Drafts are written by an AI model and can be wrong — inaccurate, incomplete, out of date, or confidently mistaken, including in facts, formulas, dates and translations. Read every draft before you save it and before you study from it. Nothing is saved until you accept it, and what you save is your responsibility. Ask Knot is a study aid, not academic, medical, legal, financial or other professional advice.

What you send

Send Ask Knot only material you have the right to use, and do not send other people’s personal information or anything you would not want an AI provider to process. Our Privacy Policy explains where a request goes and what is kept.

Who owns the drafts

As between you and us, the drafts you save are yours, like the rest of your content (section 5). An AI model may produce similar output for other people, so you cannot claim exclusive rights over a draft because Ask Knot wrote it for you.

Your own AI key

When you use your own key from Google, OpenAI, Anthropic or OpenRouter, your requests are made under your account with that provider: its terms and privacy policy apply, and its charges are yours. We use your key only to make the requests you send, and we are not responsible for the provider’s service, its availability, or what it charges you. Keep your key secure, and remove it from knot or revoke it with the provider if you think it has been exposed.

Limits

We may set, change or end the free allowance, and we may limit or suspend Ask Knot for an account that misuses it (section 9).

knot can save your study data to a backup file that you keep wherever you choose, and restore from one. Keeping that file safe, and making copies of anything you cannot afford to lose, is up to you. A backup is a convenience, not a guarantee, and we are not liable for study data that cannot be restored.

You can also import flashcards from an Anki deck file or from text copied out of Quizlet or a spreadsheet. Import only material you have the right to use; importing it into knot gives you no more rights over it than you had before.

While using knot, you agree not to:

• Circumvent, disable or interfere with the entitlement checks, licensing or security of knot, or use Pro features without a valid subscription.
• Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the application, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits it despite this restriction.
• Access knot’s services by automated means, or place unreasonable load on them.
• Share, resell or sublicense your account or subscription, or use one account for multiple people.
• Use Ask Knot to produce anything unlawful, harmful or infringing, try to get around its limits, or try to make it ignore its instructions or reveal them.
• Use knot for anything unlawful, or in breach of your institution’s rules on academic honesty.

knot is designed to work offline, but the parts that depend on our servers — sign-in, entitlement checks and Ask Knot — may be unavailable from time to time, for maintenance or for reasons beyond our control. We do not promise uninterrupted availability.

We may add, change, or remove features, and we may release updates that your device installs. Where we discontinue a significant paid feature during a period you have paid for, we will act reasonably and in line with your consumer rights.

You may stop using knot at any time, delete your account from within the application, and cancel your subscription through your store.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms — in particular the acceptable use section — or where we are required to by law. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will warn you first and give you a chance to put things right. On termination, your licence to use knot ends; the sections that by their nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, liability, indemnity and governing law) continue to apply. Study data on your device remains yours and stays where it is until you delete it.

These Terms are between you and Numinous Lab only, not with Apple or Google. We, not Apple or Google, are responsible for knot and its content.

For knot obtained through the Apple App Store, you also agree that: Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for knot; in the event of any failure of knot to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, and to the maximum extent permitted by law Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever; Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to knot, including product liability, regulatory compliance, and consumer protection claims; Apple is not responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement or discharge of any third-party intellectual property claim relating to knot; you comply with applicable third-party terms when using knot; and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. You also represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

Purchases made through Google Play are additionally subject to the Google Play Terms of Service.

Except for the warranties we cannot exclude by law, knot is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that knot will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any defect will be corrected.

knot is a study aid. It is not academic, professional or examination advice, and using it does not guarantee any grade or outcome. We do not warrant that anything Ask Knot drafts is accurate or complete (section 7). You remain responsible for the work you submit and for complying with the academic integrity rules of your institution.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you, and your mandatory consumer rights are unaffected.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, for loss of profits, revenue, goodwill or opportunity, or for loss or corruption of data, arising out of or in connection with your use of knot — including any study data that cannot be restored, and anything you rely on from a draft Ask Knot wrote.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with these Terms is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for knot in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or USD 50.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot be limited under applicable law. Your mandatory consumer rights are unaffected.

You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of knot, or your infringement of someone else’s rights. This does not apply where the claim arises from our own breach or negligence, and it does not apply to consumers to the extent your law prohibits it.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, without regard to its conflict of laws rules, and the courts of Nigeria have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your country of residence, or of the right to bring proceedings in your local courts where that law gives you that right. Before starting formal proceedings, please write to support@numinouslab.com — most issues are faster to resolve directly.

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in force. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between us about knot.

We may update these Terms — for example when features change or the law does. We will update the effective date and version above, and where a change is material we will give notice in the application before it takes effect. Continuing to use knot after that means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using knot and cancel any subscription through your store.
